Broad searching or a connected shipment workflow?
Consider DAT when searching and evaluating freight listings is the central job. Consider BoxDirect when the job is arranging a supported box-truck or dry-van shipment directly with an independent carrier and keeping that transaction's information together.
BoxDirect supports enclosed box/straight trucks in its active 16-, 20-, 24- and 26-foot categories, plus 53-foot dry vans. This does not mean every straight-truck body or service is supported. Confirm the assigned vehicle's dimensions, payload and loading equipment; a size label alone does not establish suitability.
Product-fit tradeoffs, not a universal winner
A possible fit tradeoff is breadth of search tools versus the workflow for a particular booked shipment. Neither a search result nor a marketplace account guarantees a suitable load on your preferred lane. Compare actual equipment requirements, counterparties and pickup windows rather than assuming the two products expose identical freight.
How to compare a real shipment
Test one outbound lane and its return direction separately. Record the time spent confirming dimensions, communicating with the other party and collecting delivery evidence. Compare total cost under the applicable DAT plan and BoxDirect's booking fee, without treating a subscription and a transaction fee as equivalent charges.
Considering alternatives to DAT?
Treat this as a comparison of jobs, not a promise of interchangeable products. Consider DAT when searching and evaluating freight listings is the central job. Consider BoxDirect when the job is arranging a supported box-truck or dry-van shipment directly with an independent carrier and keeping that transaction's information together. Use the carrier and equipment guides to evaluate a specific supported shipment. Keeping another tool for search, enterprise operations or network-specific freight may be appropriate; a direct marketplace is not automatically a replacement for the whole service.
Carrier verification refers to BoxDirect's business, insurance and identity-document review and eligibility workflow. It does not guarantee safety, performance, available capacity or coverage for a particular loss. Independent carriers perform transportation; this page does not classify BoxDirect as a motor carrier, freight broker, insurance provider or guarantor.
Understand BoxDirect's fee and payout process
For new bookings, BoxDirect's 10% platform fee is included in the agreed freight amount and deducted before the carrier payout, not added on top of the shipper's booked price. A $1,000 freight booking allocates $100 to the platform and $900 to the carrier before other applicable deductions. Historical bookings retain their agreed totals.
Shipper payment, delivery approval, administrator payout review and bank settlement are separate steps. Delivery approval does not automatically release money. Reported problems require administrative resolution, and bank processing times vary.
Competitor prices, plans and service terms must be checked with the provider. No competitor price, load-volume claim, review score or service guarantee is assumed in this comparison.
Account registration & freight pricing
Account registration costs $0 USD. Freight rates vary by load, and displayed transportation and payment terms apply. The $0 offer is for account creation only; it does not mean free transportation or no platform fees.
